John Cage is a very interesting individual, to me he seems adorable but maybe that’s just me. Born in Los Angeles in 1912, Cage studied for a short time at Pamona College, and later at UCLA with classical composer Arthur Schoenberg.I love how he finds laughter intriguing and that laughter doesn’t have to have a meaning to it. I agree with him, you don’t have to laugh because you see or hear something funny but to just laugh is a type of sound, a meaningless sound. John Cage is try to prove that sound is more than just noise but sound is sound. I really don’t know how to explain it the way he did but I’m just telling it like it seems. He’s a very unique person, usually people would over analyze traffic sounds and music but to him its just sound. Like how much more can I explain it.
At first I kinda thought that he was a psychopath because of the way he was speaking and laughing at random times. But I realized how much sound meant to him and that laughter intrigues him. He created a piece 4′33”, it is possibly the most famous and important piece in twentieth century and it was created to show the importance of silence.
I was a bit confused when he mention, ”I don’t want the two sounds to be in love.”
I would like to experience the different types of sounds the John Cage mentioned. And oh… it would also be interesting to try the silence piece !
